Tuesday Watchdog: Should AI Tell You What the Bible Means?

Pastors are using AI—but don’t want it deciding what the Bible means

New Barna research reported today finds an interesting divide among Protestant pastors. Only 5% completely reject using AI to help interpret difficult passages, but just 10% think AI should determine which interpretation of a disputed Scripture is correct. Pastors appear increasingly willing to use AI as a research assistant while resisting the idea of treating it as a theological authority.

And this isn’t hypothetical. AI products now advertise sermon preparation, Bible studies, automatic Scripture detection, devotional writing and even sermon-series creation specifically to churches.

So What?

A concordance is a tool. Google is a tool. AI can be a tool. And it’s okay to use tools to help you understand the Bible.

The danger isn’t asking AI, “What did this Greek word mean in the first century?” The danger is asking it, “Tell me what I’m supposed to believe,” and never opening the Bible yourself.

Notice Paul said study. He didn’t say prompt.

Demand Some Answers From Your Pastor/Preacher/Priest

How comfortable is your brand of Christianity?
Do you just sit in a pew on Sunday, or do you stand on the Truth every day?

Do you ask hard questions of the pooh-bahs of Churchianity, or do you just accept the doctrinal traditions they are spoon-feeding their congregations?

Questions like these:

  • Does God send kids who don’t “accept Jesus” to eternal torture in a flaming hell?
  • If Grandma is alive and strumming a harp in heaven right now, why should we mourn her death?
  • Why does God allow so much pain, death, and suffering in the world?
  • If God has already decided everything that’s going to happen, why should I pray for my friend to recover from a disease?
  • Where does the Bible clearly and explicitly teach that God is three-in-one and one-in-three?
  • Why did Jesus have to die in order for me to be saved, and what am I being “saved” from?

Those questions, and many others, should be asked over and over again until the pooh-bahs of Churchianity can answer them with something other than “It’s a mystery we can’t comprehend, brothers and sisters…”

Remember, Jesus reserved some of His strongest words not for pagans or politicians, but for religious leaders.

What is Bible Rebel? Fresh content posted daily (except Sundays) for seekers hungry for truth and relevance outside the stodgy, lifeless confines of Churchianity and the dark, empty hopelessness of atheism and nihilism.

The Whole World Is A Series Of Miracles…

“The whole world is a series of miracles, but we’re so used to them we call them ordinary things.”
― Hans Christian Andersen

Well said, Hans.

I’ve found the secret: train your mind to see even the most mundane things for what they are – miraculous works of God.

From the tiniest being in existence to the vast splendor of a starry night, it’s all meant to show the glory and wonder of our loving Creator.

God’s ‘Fine Tuning’ For Science Nerds

It seems evident to me that the universe and our wonderful world couldn’t possibly be the result of random coincidence. True science points directly at a Creator. So does simple common sense.

Here are four examples of how God has fine tuned His creation.

The Strength of Gravity

  • Gravity is incredibly weak compared to other fundamental forces, but it is precisely the right strength to allow stars, planets, and galaxies to form.
  • If gravity were slightly stronger: stars would burn too quickly and violently; planets might not form.
  • If gravity were slightly weaker: matter would not clump together at all—no stars, no planets, no life.
Why it looks fine-tuned: The allowable range for gravity is astonishingly narrow—changing it by even 1 part in 10⁶⁰ would make life impossible.

The Cosmological Constant (Dark Energy)

  • This constant determines the rate at which the universe expands.
  • If it were slightly larger: the universe would expand too fast for galaxies to form.
  • If it were slightly smaller or negative: the universe would collapse back on itself before life could develop.
Why it looks fine-tuned: Physicists estimate it must be set within 1 part in 10¹²⁰—a precision so extreme it is often called the “single most finely tuned parameter” in physics.

The Ratio of Electromagnetic Force to Gravity

  • This ratio governs how atoms form and behave.
  • If electromagnetism were weaker: atoms wouldn’t hold together; chemistry as we know it wouldn’t exist.
  • If it were stronger: stars could not sustain stable nuclear reactions.
Why it looks fine-tuned: The delicate balance between these forces allows stable atoms, long-lasting stars, and complex chemistry—all essential for life.

The Mass and Properties of the Proton, Neutron, and Electron

Life depends on an exact set of conditions in the subatomic world:

  • If the neutron’s mass were slightly different, atoms could not form stable nuclei.
  • If the electron’s charge or mass varied even slightly, chemical bonding would break down.
  • If the proton–neutron mass difference changed, stars would not produce the right elements for life (like carbon and oxygen).
Why it looks fine-tuned: These values appear “just right” for complex chemistry to exist.

Our Mission at Bible Rebel

  1. To monitor current news and events related to faith and culture.
  2. To provide an alternative viewpoint to the world’s pervasive climate of darkness, nihilism, and hopelessness for those seeking truth, light, and purpose.
  3. To examine and question the assumptions of religious tradition and provide a resource for information and inspiration for people of faith who have become dissatisfied with an increasingly lifeless and empty ‘churchianity’.
  4. To present the Biblical truths which reveal God’s nature and purposes and proclaim the lifechanging, world-altering, radical message of Yeshua the Messiah – Jesus Christ, our risen Lord and Savior.

At Bible Rebel, this is our one and only creed:
Our living God is a loving God and the Bible is His revealed word and will.
Our hope and eternal salvation relies entirely on the work of God’s only begotten son, Jesus Christ, who is the way, the truth, and the life.

So, expect some controversial viewpoints and uncomfortable ideas in some of the coming content from Bible Rebel.

They Said It: Intelligent Design

Here are four quotes about intelligent design. ‘Intelligent design’ being a scientifically correct way of giving credit where credit is due – to our Creator, who is God Almighty.

Michael Behe (biochemist, author of Darwin’s Black Box)
“To a person who does not feel obliged to restrict his search to unintelligent causes, the straightforward conclusion is that many biochemical systems were purposely designed by an intelligent agent.”

William Dembski (mathematician, philosopher, intelligent design theorist)
“Intelligent design is just the logos theology of John’s Gospel restated in the idiom of information theory.”

Stephen C. Meyer (philosopher of science, author of Signature in the Cell)
“Whenever we find information—whether inscribed in hieroglyphics or written in a book or encoded in a radio signal—it always arises from an intelligent source. Information is the hallmark of mind. And the DNA molecule has precisely this characteristic.”

Albert Einstein (often quoted in ID contexts, though not himself an ID advocate)
“The more I study science, the more I believe in God.”
(While Einstein did not promote intelligent design in the modern sense, his statement is often invoked by ID supporters as evidence that the universe points to design rather than randomness.)
